What Does The Computer See? : ‘The Singularity’ by AIIV

The singularity, that moment artificial intelligence matches all combined human intelligence. The human era ends and the machines take over. In their series The Singularity, creative duo AIIV crafts 1,000 unique images generated through artificial intelligence, and in these computer-generated images, the machines wake up and speak for their new existence.

In their version of the singularity, artists Phil Bosua and Ravi Vora show this moment aglow with the beauty of a new world mid-spawn. The AI renders itself with bulbous organic material, interiors of blood, the plumage of a hybrid flesh. What AIIV asks the computer to do is predict its own future. What does the computer see? Given a voice, what will this technology say about its relationship to its creator?

As visually stunning as The Singularity is, the images predict a world free of humanity, the beauty of a machine mimicking the shape of man, designing itself in our image. This is the extinction of man, or a more proper explanation is that this is the evolution of man, our DNA seeding the mesh of living software across the digital landscape.
