Art in Time of Pandemic: Prints from Eric Fisher

There was always an awareness of the coronavirus. For most of the world, it was happening somewhere else. Effecting strangers and like most tragedies, it kept a tight circle of those involved. Then COVID-19 quickly jumped borders and changed the world. Homebound in quarantine, the disease has us all trapped in stasis. We cannot visit friends or family and if we leave our home, we must keep at least six feet away from strangers. We are in unified global isolation where we are limited to seeing those that live under our roof. Anxiety and frustration weep from all corners.

Seattle-based illustrator Eric Fisher has used this time to create a series of prints focused on the power of human contact. The vital role that a single touch can play in our lives. Fisher explains, “I wanted to make something that would remind people of this time and how powerful a simple touch can be…or lack thereof. The pandemic immediately made physical touch taboo and strange or something only shared with someone you are willing to get sick with. I am hoping to reflect the better side of that dilemma and show the beauty of it in a time that we think twice about everything and everyone we touch.”

Fisher is also co-owner of Seattle eatery Copal, and is offering the prints as gifts for those that donate to assist the staff of his restaurant through the recently created GoFundMe. As the GoFundMe states, the owners “…are applying for loans, grants, and funding however we can but it is unknown if/when that will be accepted and available. In the meantime, these people that have worked so hard are without pay and are relying on a very small unemployment check. It is humbling as a business owner to not have the means to pay them. It is also humbling to ask you for your help. Every dollar made goes towards paying them. We are also offering items in exchange for your donation in hopes that you feel like you get something in return that brings you some joy and reflects the love that you have shared. Thank you for your support!
