A Brief Look: Illustrator Joey Chou Does Disney

 

In the finished canvas of Los Angeles-based illustrator Joey Chou is a complete story. He captures the over-arching narrative of Star Wars in a single frame with his print Opposing Forces, and in his designs of Disneyland rides he give the viewer the full thrill and joy of being at the park.

Disney’s WonderGround Gallery in Anaheim has brought Chou on board to illustrate many of their timeless characters and rides. Each of Chou’s prints reaches into the Disney universe with that same sense of play and enthusiasm Walt Disney displayed in his early animations.

There is great exploration of color and shape in Chou’s work — It’s a Small World holds dear the original design done by Mary Blair while taking it in his own direction.
