A Brief Look: The Gig Posters of Ammo

There’s a wonderful handmade feel to the work of French illustrator Ammo. His style mimics wood signs, clockwork — coins. His designs are textured in scratched wood. The deep black of vintage metal.

The mystery I find in his work is partly my fault as an ignorant American — gig posters for bands I don’t know playing shows in places I’ve never heard of, advertised in a language I can’t read. But none of that matters. In Ammo’s illustrations there’s a mood formed of secret concerts in underground clubs and fogged alleys. He creates places you want to visit. Events you want to be a part of.

Searching for any information on Ammo you find his website. An old myspace page. His site — full of drawings, comics, posters. Just a wealth of work. There’s no Facebook or Instagram, no private life revealed. Just the work, and the work speaks well for the artist behind it all.
