As an illustrator, Kevin Tong is a disciplined tactician. To view his work is to see how he approaches his canvas, like a game board — elements to move and push. Withdraw. Playing until there is only one possible outcome.
His catalog of work is strong with focused compositions and designs. He is a draftsman after all, fitting elegant design deep into his work.
For the upcoming gallery show from Austin’s Mondo Gallery, Tong is sharing the stage with Martin Ansin.
Like Tong, Ansin is a skilled draftsman. His designs are graceful — perfect. An Ansin illustration is the opposite of vulgar. There’s beauty in the lines and in the silken textures. His prints are luxurious.
Mondo let loose a few previews of the Ansin & Tong show that opens at the gallery this Friday March 14th at 7PM.
Here’s hoping for a few more before the doors open.
