Comic Con has hit San Diego. Today is its official ‘opening day,’ but last night was Preview Night for those lucky folks who were able to get in.
I have a short list of things to accomplish while I’m here in San Diego, and priority was meeting illustrator Kevin Tong. He’s an illustrator whose work demands attention — his posters are intricate. Gorgeous in design and execution.
When I saw his posters in Austin for Mondo’s ‘Universal Monsters’ show I was an immediate fan. I contacted him and we chatted over email for a few weeks last year and Kevin was kind enough to let me interview him. I learned a lot about his process, and the creative process in general — so when I saw that Kevin was going to have a booth at Comic Con I knew I had to stop in and say hello.
One of his new posters debuted last night — ‘Beyond Good & Evil’ based on the Friedrich Nietzsche book of the same name.
I picked up one his ‘Beyond Good & Evil’ prints for $40. It’s a beautiful thing, but too bad the iPhone camera doesn’t do to good of a job showing it off.
Also available at Comic Con is Kevin Tong’s ‘Pacific Rim’ poster is available in regular and variant. These are at the Mondo booth.
Another poster from Kevin is his ‘Metropolis’ print. I didn’t see it at his booth, but it’s probably floating around there somewhere.
KEVIN TONG ILLUSTRATION, BOOTH # 631, (Lobby A Entrance)
Wednesday July 17 (Preview Night)
Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
If you’re in San Diego for Comic Con stop on by Kevin’s booth. He has some absolutely stunning posters for sale and even if you’re not going to buy — it’s a treat to finally see some of these prints in person. JPEGs don’t do any of this work justice.
