The measured line between digital and analog is gone. There is simply the movement of a brush and the dithered edge of faulty pixels. The illustration Storm depicts the moment an arrow of lightning burns through the evening sky, strikings the surface of the water. The water erupts, electrified. A closer look and the eruption is not water but a sea nymph — a mermaid.
Then a second look — is the mermaid sending or receiving the bolt from the sky?
This is the work of illustrator Erin Vest. In each of Vest’s pieces, a story unfolds, and with each subsequent visit, it opens once again, anew. Vest’s narratives continue on past the canvas, afloat in the world she has created.
