Barcelona-based illustrator Adolf Rodriguez bypasses the gore and horror of classic monsters and places them as childhood friends — the faces move from monsters to comforting heroes.
Rodriguez’s black and white illustrations are crisp linocuts made imperfect through the fickleness of hand-applied ink on paper. The effect is reminiscent of the films they are born from, the flicker of aged celluloid, and the bulk of rudimentary costuming. Each print hangs like a vintage lobby card — the creatures posed as Hollywood leads, captured forever in prosperity.
