Illustrator Christopher Shy creates work with a consistent thrust — each piece is pure ambiance and mood focused on the terror point. Inside Shy’s darkness are faces of death — Frankenstein’s Monster, the Creature, Godzilla, and his own designs of cryptic body horror.
Shy offers clear portraits of these beasts. The monster’s cold stare directed at the viewer, the Creature is center-stage — descending, ascending, suspended mid-stroke in a sea of shape and color. His concept illustrations tear apart biology, repurposing tendril and claw. The environment of each subject is there not to ground them in reality, but to to heighten the sense of despair and fear.
