The images of photographer Holly Burnham exist as paintings captured by other means. Each photograph reflects Burnham as much as it does the model — she is the subject, the unseen body in the frame.
For her role in the images, model Melanie Blankenship is willing and able to transform — from the work she does for the bridal industry to beauty and fashion, she can be a stoic waif, Midwestern bride, or aggressive beauty. Following Blankenship on Instagram is similar to evolving sketchbook of an artist, each image is a shift from the previous, a new take on an existing style.
For Figure Study 002, Burnham and Blankenship created a set of photos only they could create, one, that I hope, inspires artists to pick a pencil or brush, and start sketching.
“Originality depends only on the character of the drawing and the vision peculiar to each artist.”
