On Thursday October 6th, Tictail Market in New York City with host illustrator Thomas Danthony‘s exhibit ‘Modern Shapes,’ Danthony’s latest exploration in reductionist landscapes.
‘Modern Shapes‘ finds Danthony at the shore of a Swiss lake, turning the scene into a duo of paintings that hold onto the beauty through refined contours and twilight color tones. The exhibit expands as narrative — ‘An Evening at The Lake‘ finds a woman caught in the calm of the water, the cut of her shape is mimicked in ‘Fold 1‘ and ‘Fold 2,’ illustrations that reduce her even further to a series of a simple shapes.
From Tictail Market —
‘MODERN SHAPES is a collection inspired by the lakes of Southern Switzerland. In the Ticino area, when the sun goes down the landscapes sometimes blend into abstract compositions. Presented as a diptych, the LAKE BLANKETS use the water’s reflection to depict that feeling of peaceful stillness.
Produced as a limited edition, they are woven with 100% cotton thread in North Carolina. Perfect for a day by the lake or a cool evening at home. The show also features gouache paintings and printed products inspired by the blankets.’
