In the middle of 2014 Holly Burnham was approached to create a series of photographs with model Hattie Watson that would then be given to a group of illustrators and artists to use as reference material for their own works. The final outcome of the experiment was ‘Evil Tender Presents: In Reference,’ a group showing of those photographs and the art it inspired.
From those conversations started another dialogue. Burnham took to the catalog of illustrator Richey Beckett — his drawings of women similar to her own work as a photographer in the beauty industry. Burnham took model Melanie Blankenship into Beckett’s world for a series of photographs inspired by Beckett’s illustration ‘Tender Abuse.’
This is not a direct reproduction of Beckett’s composition. Burnham found a common language in Beckett’s work and used her own expertise to play in his colors and theme.
