Artist Mike Mitchell is a chronicler of modern culture — a steadied hand depicting each superhero and popular icon with a scientist’s eye for detail. For his upcoming show at Mondo, Mitchell has looked at Marvel‘s comic book heroes as a new species, catalogued in his exhaustive and ongoing encyclopedia that is his ‘Just Like Us‘ and ‘Portraits‘ series. He’s a new version of Darwin in the Galapagos in more than just vague hyperbole.
So far only a cluster of Mitchell’s work for his upcoming solo show at Austin’s Mondo Gallery has been released online, but Mitchell is a dedicated preserver of our modern culture and it’s been said the show will have more than 60 new works on display.
