A Brief Look: The Comic Art of Jim Rugg

Artist Jim Rugg is a dynamo. He takes staggering shifts in style — from classic heroic comics to the silly and absurd, Rugg can get it all on paper. Rugg shows the strength of the simple — ballpoint pen. White paper. Slow build-up of ink. The BAM of strong design.

Rugg’s recent print ‘Demon Killer‘ brings in elements of comic book sci-fi and fantasy with the brawn of Robert E. Howard’s ‘Conan‘ series. It’s a nod to teenage lust for girls and gore, blacklight and monsters. A glorious slab of the dreams of pimpled youth. ‘Demon Killer’ is part of Telegraph Gallery‘s ‘Epic Encounters’ series, a selection of prints from Jim Rugg, Jack Teagle, and Ryan Berkley showing off their love for vikings, wizards, and monsters.
