Illustrator Rich Kelly has a knack for creating striking images using crisp designs swathed in a color scheme of summer haze and gentle hues.
This poster comes from the Paul Thomas Anderson film ‘Hard Eight’ and was commissioned by Mondo for their tribute to films of Mr. Anderson. The Mondo series is curated by artist Aaron Horkey and features a poster for most of P.T. Anderson’s films. Look at this thing — Kelly twisted the classic casino vibe around the poor luck of Anderson’s schlub of a hero, played by king schlub John C. Riley.
I’ve seen his ‘Django’ poster before, but didn’t know he was the one behind it. This gives me the opportunity to do one of my all time favorite things — pour over an artist’s archives. Mr. Kelly has a lot of treasures in the deep vault of his work. Excited to seeing what comes next out of the studio of Rich Kelly.
