“Life isn’t fair.”
We experience this as kids but we lack the ability to process this fact. To make it real. Our parents and our friend’s parents. Our family. They play their part to disguise the true nature of the world.
“If we repeatedly tell them all is well, beat this idea into their baby brain skulls, they might believe it. And if they don’t, well, that’s the fault of their own stupidity. Don’t they watch TV?”
At the end of the 2006 Golden Globes, in the category “Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy” the series Desperate Housewives took the top prize, besting the competition of Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Everybody Hates Chris, Weeds, and the greatest show of shows, My Name Is Earl.
MY NAME IS EARL.
One of the finestly written and acted television series to grace the fractals of your LCD screen.
Really? Beat out by Desperate Housewives?
A TV show that starred Jaime Pressly*, an actress who posed nude for Playboy twice (twice! Once ruins the careers of your average generically bland psuedo-actress) and still managed to be super awesome and hilarious was beat out by Teri Hatcher? Not to dismiss Teri Hatcher and all of her achievements but she’s not very good at all.
So yeah, I guess I mean to dismiss her. Dismiss the hell out of Teri Hatcher.

So, Teri Hatcher hasn’t had Botox or anything. She’s a natural face. Yay! That is awesome in the Hollywood sense of the word but that doesn’t mean I have to respect her as an actress. Sure, if she brought over some artichoke dip to a barbecue I would totally eat it and tell her it was amazing and chat with her about how uncomfortable her shoes are (why do ladies like to talk about this?) but that doesn’t mean I’d vote her television show THE GREATEST COMEDY OR MUSICAL OF 2006.
Just to reinforce what most people know deep in the soul of their blood bones – AWARDS DON’T MEAN SHI*T.
* This does (kinda) endorse my vote for Raising Hope for the 2012 Golden Globes, even though, I hate to say it Whitney and The New Girl are quite charming**.
**BUT CHARMING ISN’T HILARIOUS AND TOUCHING!

I never really got the whole Desperate Housewives thing either and My Name is Earl was the kind of script that (if I was a TV writer) I hope I’d be cranking out. Original.

Agree 100%! The writers on My Name Is Earl accomplished a lot. Presenting characters you care about in a zany yet grounded way, and every week telling unique and original stories is quite a feat.
